Hey y'all.

Very little progress.

I am redoing the front suspension completely. I have cut all new parts off the front axle: double shear panhard mount instead of single shear, QA1 coils instead of Jeep springs (-> smaller dia, more spring rates to choose from), shock mounts.

Here is a sneak peak of the redone spring bucket and shock mount tacked in place. Left and right shock mount will get a removable cross brace above the engine later.

Right side will follow as soon as I figured out where exactly the winch line will be. The winch will sit behind the pass seat(-> better weight distribution front to rear, less dirt in the winch, better approach angle); the line will go somewhere above the right frame rail; right through spring bucket and shock mount.

Best regards,

Norbert

Looking good Norbert, I might have missed it but are those FJ-80 axles?

Hi Bach,

the axles are Mini Truck axles. They are shaved and have late model Tacoma e-lockers and Longfield chromo inner axles in the front (soon). The radius arms (actually the links on all four corners) are from an old Range Rover. The bracktes for the links are custom made / my work.

That makes sense, I believe FJ-80 links are very similar. I think they are a great idea, seldom seen here though. I have seen a few builds from Australia that use them, they seem to work great. Your combination of parts sounds sweet.

Hi Bach,

Thanks. Yes, Land / Range Rover and Toyota radius arms are very similiar and very tough. To increase ground clearance I mounted the radius arms on top of the axle; originally they are below the axle. They do hamper articulation somewhat but you can do not need an anti-roll-bar. Well we will see how it turns out.

In the rear Rover uses a 3-link an A-arm, connected to the top of the axle with a giant tie rod end. Toyota uses radius arms and panhard in the rear which I consider the inferior suspension due to its anti squat tendency.

Best regards,
